We’re here to share what we know — but don’t take it as medical advice. Talk to your medical provider if you have questions.

Summary

To celebrate Acne Awareness Month, we're sharing some of the real skin stories of the 5.5 million+ Curology patients we’ve served. Here’s our conversation with Morgan—she’s 26, an archaeologist by day and a rugby player by night, based in California, and has been using Curology since 2021. Morgan experienced an increase in acne during the pandemic and it took a toll on her mental health. With the right Rx treatment, she’s finally happy that people are seeing her smile again and not her acne.

This conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

Hi Morgan. How long have you been using Curology? I've been using Curology for about four years now. It's been a minute, but I'm hooked.

Morgan B&A

How did you find out about Curology?  From Instagram. I saw some ads and I was always curious about it and I've heard about it through my friends. Friends of friends. None of my close friends actually use the product, but they had heard it worked from their friends from back home or things like that. So it was discussed enough that I was definitely intrigued about it. Before Curology, were you using any other kind of [skincare] treatments? Yeah, I didn't really invest too much in my skincare. I would use drugstore products, just run of the mill stuff and it just wasn't really working for me anymore. What kind of problems were you experiencing that led you to Curology?  I had really bad acne. I was going through kind of a tough time during the start of Covid. I had just graduated college, the world shut down. I didn't know where my life was going to go job security wise, and that led to kind of a tough mental health time in my life. On top of that, my skin decided to react poorly as well. I just totally broke out all along my chin area, up my cheeks, and I felt like it just kind of kept spreading to kind of my whole face. My chin and my cheeks were the worst areas for sure. What was the process of signing up for Curology like for you? I logged on, gave all my information about my skin. I got pretty detailed, which led to more success. I feel like my provider asked questions in return, like if my skin was dry, combination, or sensitive. I feel like questions like that led to a really personalized experience. I thought it was super easy. Very user-friendly. What was on your mind during that time? There’s so many options these days when it comes to skincare and there's so many different products, so many different YouTubers that you could watch that recommend one thing and not the other. It’s very overwhelming to try and figure out yourself, especially because I was already kind of going through it. I was like, I just want something that's simple, someone to point me in the right direction. I felt like Curology totally did that. Anytime that I had a concern too, it was so easy to reach back out and be like, hey, my skin is kind of dry. What am I doing wrong? They would recommend not using my Custom Formula every day, maybe every other day, or use my moisturizer first. That was really nice to be able to talk to someone once I was already prescribed my treatment too. That's awesome. Who was your Curology provider? Do you know? That's a great question. I actually looked last night and I don't remember, but I think might've been like Laura at one point. Shout out Laura, thank you! What was the experience of using Curology like? I feel like we're our own worst critics. I really saw the changes right away. But, when my friends and family started pointing out how my skin looked better, that felt really awesome and I felt a lot more hopeful that it was working and I am going to see results. Then, I started seeing them myself and that was really great to see. It was pretty quick too. In two months, even over that little time I was seeing results and that was really awesome to go back and realize how quickly it worked for me.

Morgan Pull Quote

Do you remember the moment you were like, it's working? I don't remember the moment in particular, but I just feel like there was a total shift in that period of my life. I was so just sad and unwell a little bit and having better skin really helped me come out of that time. I just feel like it was a whole shift, not even one day that I felt really good. It totally changed and helped me get out of that hard time and gain my confidence back, feel like myself again. What does the rest of your routine look like?  I use the Gentle Cleanser and the Cream Moisturizer. I also have a bottle of the Acne Body Wash and every once in a while I'll get the Emergency Spot Patches in my subscription as well. Those are a lifesaver. Have you talked about your experience with anyone in your life? I feel like none of my friends are experiencing it [acne] to the level that I was going through it, but anytime that someone brings up being dissatisfied with their skincare, I'm so happy to be like, oh my g-d, this is a time I could talk about Curology. This helped me so much. You should really check it out. It's so easy. I definitely recommend it. How would you sum up your skin journey in one word or a brief sentence? I think I'm most happy about the acne being cleared away from my smile. I was really self-conscious about my acne around my chin or my cheeks because that's where you first look. It's something that you first notice in somebody is their smile.  I remember thinking, oh, they're not looking at my face or my smile. They're looking at my acne. The thing that probably makes me the happiest is that my face is clear. People could see me and not see my acne.
