We’re here to share what we know — but don’t take it as medical advice. Talk to your medical provider if you have questions.

Summary

To celebrate Acne Awareness Month, we're sharing some of the real skin stories of the 5.5 million+ Curology patients we’ve served. Here’s our conversation with Sherin—she’s 23, an accounting student, based in Minnesota, and has been using Curology since 2022. Sherin tried just about everything in an effort to get rid of her acne. After slowing down and sticking with a Curology routine, she feels like she’s transformed her personality and her skin.

This conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

Hi Sherin. How long have you been using Curology? Approximately two and a half years. Three, yeah. How did you find out about Curology? It was one of my friends in class, but mostly [it] was through this TikTok ad. Do you remember what the ad said? Now that I think about it, it might not be an ad. It was more of an influencer just doing her skin routine and emphasizing how Curology changed her whole life. What were you using before Curology? It was mostly just drugstore products. Anything that I would hear or see on TikTok with anybody talking about if they had the same issues as me, I would just try it out, but I never really had the best luck in sticking to products.

Sherin B&A

What problems were you experiencing? I had a lot of hormonal acne. I would literally have bumps on my face and just a lot of irritation and redness in my skin. What did a bad skin day feel like for you? Oh gosh, I had a ton of those days actually. If I’m to think of one incident, probably when I had a presentation for my communication class. Oh g-d. I had the worst acne in that period, oh my goodness, it was really bad. It was one of those things that I had to power through. It was an in-person class, so I had to stand in front of people when I wasn't really comfortable in my own skin, but I had to do it. Yeah, I definitely had many days like that. What was signing up for Curology like? The process was actually kind of easy for me. When I joined, I just answered a few questions and they [my provider] immediately set me up with a plan. I talked to my provider though—I remember my first box was a bit harsh on my skin. I was surprised when I reached out, because usually when you reach out to providers it could take really long to get back to you or they might not give you the right advice. But when I reached out to my provider, she accommodated me easily and was so reassuring. She changed my plan and actually seemed like she cared. She really made me feel heard. It was pretty easy for me, honestly.

Sherin Pull Quote

What does your skincare routine look like? I kind of have a simple routine. I don't think I do too much, so I always double cleanse my face. I use this [Deep Cleanse Rx] first. Then, during the day I just go in with my [Gel] Moisturizer. At nighttime I use this, my Custom Formula. These are all I need, honestly, my day-to-day. What does a good skin day feel like for you? I feel like I had more of a personality change. When I would be with my family, they feel like I'm more open and outgoing lately, because I didn't really go out a lot. Lemme not lie. Mostly if I was going out, it was, I had a full face of makeup. It would definitely not be spontaneous. I would have to actually plan to go out and not somebody just being like, Hey, let's go out. Now, I’m more outgoing. I feel like my personality changed. I'm easygoing and all that. My family and friends definitely see the difference for sure. Do you talk about your skincare journey with your family and friends? Before I really wasn't, I didn't really have a specific product that I could talk about and share. I was switching back to back on products, but then after I got into Curology, it felt easier to talk about skin-related issues. I always be putting my friends on. I usually just tell them to start slow. For me, I was testing it out, so I just got my cleanser, moisturizer and just the formula. It worked out so well for me and I was like, I know they sell a bunch of things, but I'm like, these are my holy grail. I was like, it's one of those products that you don't need to buy a whole list of [other stuff] as much as the 3 Curology products are amazing. What advice would you give yourself three years ago? To be patient. I feel like my skin kind of got really bad. I was looking for fast results, and so I kept on just trying stuff, trying stuff, trying stuff. I feel like Curology was the one product that I was like, okay, let me just actually take my time. It actually paid out. I’d doubt it if I was just expecting to wake up the next day  perfect. I don't think that I would've carried on with the whole journey. What’s the one thing you’re most proud of on this journey? I feel like, I think it's the confidence, my openness. I'm so proud of myself because after failing so many times with different products, I was still open enough to keep on trying. So I'm like, that was something. The confidence I have right now vs. where I was back then.
