We’re here to share what we know — but don’t take it as medical advice. Talk to your medical provider if you have questions.

New trends like skin fasting claim doing nothing at all is the best thing you can possibly do for your skin — but if that were true, none of us would have acne in the first place. The importance of skincare in acne treatment isn’t about the quantity of products you’re using, but the quality of their ingredients — and whether your unique skin needs those ingredients in the first place.

Building a simple daily skincare routine

If you want a one-step skincare routine, just apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Vigilant sunscreen application is the most important factor for keeping your skin healthy and looking young. That said, if your skin needs a little extra love, here’s a basic routine that’s just right:

AM

1. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser.

2. Apply sunscreen or a moisturizer with SPF.

PM

1. Cleanse. You can cleanse with micellar water to remove makeup or use a gentle cleanser.

2. Apply your Curology treatment, customized for your unique skin needs.

3. Optionally: apply a moisturizer for deeper hydration.

Skincare routine order

There’s no clear consensus from dermatologists about the optimal order for products. That said, it makes the most sense to use products that clean the skin first, and products that are meant to absorb into the skin last. You can also consider the product’s consistency: work from light (cleansing) to heavy (hydrating).

When starting your Curology treatment, you should stick to the simplified skincare routine for several weeks so that your face can adjust to the powerful active ingredients in your formula. If, after that time has passed, you want to add another product — like a physical or chemical exfoliant — it should be applied after cleansing, but before any heavier creams.
